Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Our Nursery and Reception classes provide an outstanding environment, both indoors and out, for our youngest learners to begin their Telferscot journey as lifelong learners in a caring and supportive atmosphere.
The EYFS team is made up of experienced, creative and dynamic professionals who take the time to get to know each child individually. There is a passion for making learning memorable and engaging; allowing all pupils to participate fully and to make excellent progress from their starting points.
The curriculum is led by both the children’s interests, as well as the whole school termly topics. At Telferscot we ensure learning is exciting, motivating and relevant to each child, enabling them to reach their potential and develop as responsible, independent and hardworking young people who enjoy and thrive in their learning.
We encourage parents to participate fully in the life of the school. We build positive relationships with families which last throughout their child’s primary school experience and are very proud of our ‘Telfer-family’.
By setting strong foundations for each and every child in the Early Years, we fully equip them so they can continue their exciting learning journey at Telferscot into KS1 and beyond.

- Expressive Arts and Design
We follow the EYFS Framework at Telferscot and deliver our curriculum through whole class, directed teaching session, including maths, phonics, topic and book making, activities for children to access both inside and outside the classroom and continuous provision. The children have access to a wide range of resources, equipment and different spaces to allow them to explore the 7 areas of the curriculum at their own pace and level and our experienced staff help guide them and challenge them on this journey.
How we enhance our children's experience of EYFS at Telferscot
We look to enhance our curriculum provision by building real life, practical skills that allow the children to be lifelong learners and active citizens of our local area, London and the wider world. We celebrate our diversity and reflect our children’s differing backgrounds in all the work we do.
We take our children out and about in the local area from the very beginning of their time at Telferscot. Starting with trips to the local common, then moving on to train travel and underground trips up to central London. The children enjoy theatre visits, author workshops and sightseeing tours and we are always looking for ways to enrich the children’s experiences by exploring outside the classroom.
