We pride ourselves on offering a wide range of creative opportunities to our children to make the most of the arts and culture that London has to offer. For many years, Telferscot has worked with a variety of organisations to enhance our creative curriculum. We plan regular educational visits to locations such as the Tate Galleries, National Portrait Gallery, V&A, Royal Festival Hall and South Bank Centre that are linked to the topics taught in class to deepen the children's understanding. We also have partnerships with the following:
Every child from Nursery to Year 6 will go to watch an amazing theatre show each year that will kick start learning in the classroom. Our staff also take part in training days to bring the learning alive back at school, based around the themes of the performance.
Telferscot has a link to the British Film Institute who provide high quality events on a range of curriculum topics including PSHE, Digital Safety and French, using films and clips to excite and inspire our children in Key Stage 2.
Shakespeare Schools Festival
Every year our Year 5 children prepare and perform versions of Shakespearean plays in local, professional theatres. During this time, they immerse themselves in the world of Shakespeare and develop incredible confidence and resilience skills to perform in front of large crowds.
Rambert Dance Company
We are the only primary school in London to offer regular dance lessons taught by professional Rambert animateur. The children learn choreographed contemporary moves to an inspiring selection of musical genres.
Clapham City Learning Centre
We work extensively with the CLC in Clapham. Through their workshops, we can unite STEM and art to create and innovate on a variety of themes. Projects we have been a part of have included animation making, movies, robot wars and more!
Artist in Residence
We offer blocks of learning with a local artist to develop the children’s fine art skills in areas such as screen printing, drawings and painting. Through these sessions, groups of children have created individual pieces and collaborations that are displayed around the school.
Lambeth Music Festival at the Southbank Centre
Children who are regular members of Telferscot Infant Choir and Strings Club are given the opportunity to perform on stage at the Southbank Centre as part of the Festival.
Festival of Arts and Literature
In 2020, we launched our first triennial whole-school festival to celebrate the art of illustration and storytelling, using the urban environment as our focus. We invited authors, illustrators and poets in to inspire us and run storytelling, drawing and writing sessions. During the launch of this event, we ran family workshops with local artists to learn how to draw with stitch, make sculptures with Modroc, take photographs and screen print to name a few.
In Year 6, we offer the children the opportunity to sign up for the Arts Award as a platform to embark on a creative journey with a family member that is recorded through writing their own blog and a final exhibition of their work.
